AFCON 2021 To Continue as Planned in Cameroon

Cameroon hosting rights of the 2021 CAF Africa cup of Nations, also known as, AFCON 2021 is recently being threatened due to the conflicts in the country, COVID-19 pandemic, poor conditions of stadiums, and infrastructure. However, CAF has confirmed with ESPN that the competition will go on as planned in Cameroon.

According to CAF, the infrastructure has improved across the venues. The state of the stadiums has likewise improved ahead of the tournament, especially the Olembe stadium in Yaounde, where the opening and closing ceremonies will take place.

Games will also be played at Japom stadium in Douala, Limbe stadium in Limbe, the Kouekon stadium in Bafoussam, and the Rounde Adija stadium in Garoua. In total, the games will be played across six stadiums and five cities.

This makes it the second time Cameroon will be hosting this tournament after being stripped of the hosting rights in 2019. The last time Cameroon hosted this competition, was 1972.
