AFCON 2021: The Super Eagles defeated Coton sport 2-0 in a buildup match to AFCON
Nigeria played a friendly game against Coton Sport FC de Garoua behind closed doors on Friday to prepare for the 33rd Africa cup of Nations in Cameroon. The match ended 2-0 in favor of Nigeria, with Musa and Chukwueze on the score sheet.
Interim coach, Eguavoen used the friendly game between the Super Eagles and Coton Sport to test different players.
Different set of players played both halves.
The two teams scored two goals apiece as Musa scored a goal for team A and Chukwueze scored the second goal for the second-half team. The big players played the first-half, including the captain Musa, Ndidi, Omeruo, Troost-Ekong, Iheanacho, Okoye, Aina, Awoniyi, and Aribo.
Second-half players include Uzoho between the sticks, Chukwueze, Nwakali, Onyeka, Awaziem, Sanusi, Umar, Ejuke and Simon. Though the super eagles took the friendly as a serious contest, it was way more than that.
Eguavoen likely use this pre-AFCON match to identify the right players to select as his first eleven, because this is the first game he will manage as Super Eagles interim coach. He probably used this game also, to test different formations and strategies ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria kick off their AFCON campaign against Egypt Next Tuesday, January 11. Four days later, take on Sudan before battling the Falcon of Jedaine on 15.
