AFCON 2021: Senegal receive Sarr boost ahead of quarterfinal clash against Equatorial Guinea
Watford winger Sarr recovered from a knee injury and set to play against Equatorial Guinea
Watford winger, Ismaïla Sarr looks set to be fit for Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal against Equatorial Guinea after training with the squad on Wednesday.
The return of Ismaila Sarr to the Teranga Lions camp is a huge boost for the team at the Africa Cup of Nations 2021. Sarr has been out of action for Watford and Senegal since November 20 following a knee injury against Manchester United. However, he was named in the Senegal final AFCON squad.
Though, Watford do not want to release Sarr on the basis of the knee injury, he was eventually given the green light to travel to Cameroon after the Senegal Football Federation (SFF) threatened to report the matter to FIFA.
Two weeks ago, Senegal released the player to see a knee specialist in Spain, but his back to the Senegal Camp at Cameroon after a full recovery from the injury.
The Watford winger has not played a part in Senegal’s AFCON success so far due to the injury, but he can finally get a chance to help the team lift the AFCON title for the first time in their history at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Sarr can finally get to represent Senegal at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after participating in a full-training session on January 26, Wednesday.
The 23-year old return offer more attacking options for the West African side who have only managed to score just three goals in this tournament. Senegal will lock horns with Equatorial Guinea on January 30 to secure a spot in the semi-final, hopefully, we will see Sarr return to action on that day.
