Senegal v Cape Verde – match facts
This is the first encounter between Senegal and Cape Verde at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Cape Verde has only played one match in the knockout stages when they lost 0-2 to Ghana in the quarterfinal of 2013.
Senegal has played many games in the knockout stages, but their best performance was a runner up in 2002 v Cameroon and 2019 v Algeria. They lost to Cameroon on penalties in the 2002 final and lost to Algeria 0-1 in the 2019 final.
The Teranga lions are the only team in this tournament to keep a clean sheet in the group phase.
Cape Verde has only won a game since their quarterfinal loss to Ghana in 2013 till this year’s AFCON- W1 D4 L1. Although, they did not qualify for the tournament in 2017 and 2019.
Player in focus: Sadio Mane has been directly involved in half of Senegal goals since 2017 AFCON, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
