AFCON 2021: Gabon fined 20,000 USD for non-compliance with CAF’s directives
The Panthers have been slammed with 20,000 USD fine by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disciplinary board following a non-compliance with CAF’s directives.
According to the CAF disciplinary board media-statement, Gabon have been found guilty of acting against CAF’s directives within the 2021 Africa cup of Nations framework. Consequently, they have been imposed a fine of 20,000 USD for non-compliance with the regulations.
CAF’s regulations for the 2021 Africa cup of nations states that no team can change their hotel without the permission of the Africa football ruling body.
However, Gabon on the 6th of January, 2022 went ahead to change their hotel against CAF’s directives after being denied the request to change their hotel by the CAF’s safety and security.
Therefore, Gabon was charged with violating the CAF regulations and directives in accordance to the guidelines for the Africa Cup of Nations TotalEnergies. Consequently, they were fined 20,000 USD.
The CAF disciplinary board also adds additional one game suspension to the Ghana player, Benjamin Tetteh after allegedly assaulted a Gabonese player in the match between Gabon and Ghana, where Gabon came back to draw Ghana 1-1.
The CAF disciplinary board likewise issued strong warnings to both teams following their misconduct after the game.
The CAF disciplinary board media statement also reveals that the decision of the referee, to issue a red card to Mali’s Bilal Toure in their AFCON fixture against Tunisia has been upheld, after the Mali Football Federation contested the red card. As a result, Bilal Toure is suspended for two matches.
