Cameroon dream to win the title on home soil did not materialize as they were defeated by the Pharaohs in the semi-finals. Cameroon will face off with Burkina Faso today for the bronze medal.

Cameroon coach, Toni Conceicao has charged his players to move on after failing to win the AFCON title on home soil.

The West Africa giant failed to reach the final of the 2021 AFCON edition in Yaounde after losing 3-1 on penalties to Egypt.

The defeat stop the hosts run to win the title for the sixth time after ruling the continent in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017.

The 60-year old Portuguese tactician speaking ahead of their third-place match against Burkina Faso says he is unhappy they were unable to achieve their aim of winning the title on home soil.

However, he has called on his players to move on and learn from the defeat ahead of their third place fixture against the Stallions on Saturday, 20.00 WAT.

“The sadness is great especially when we do not achieve our objectives,” Conceicao told the media ahead of their third place battle with Burkina Faso.

“The players have worked well, and I am proud of them. It is up to us to learn now and move forward. I gave the best of myself to have the best results with this team. We wanted to write history, but it didn’t work out.”
