AFCON 2021: Burkina Faso & Tunisia hunt for final 4 spots

317views

After dramatic wins last weekend, Burkina Faso and Tunisia face off in the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Burkina Faso have had an impressive run at AFCON over the last decade, reaching the final in 2013 in which they lost to Nigeria, before finishing third four years later.

After a win, a draw and a loss in the group stage, Burkina Faso took on Gabon in the last 16. It ended 1-1 after normal and extra time before the Stallions claimed the victory in a penalty shootout that featured no less than 18 penalties.

Tunisia meanwhile reached the knockout round as a best ranked third-place finisher with their only group stage points coming from a win against Mauritania. The Eagles of Carthage were undoubtedly underdogs heading to their round of 16 game against Nigeria, but they tactically impressed and secured a 1-0 win to knockout one of the favorites in 90 minutes.

They would certainly fancy their chances of repeating the same feat against Burkina Faso with a place in the semis on the line.

  1. Tunisia are a very tricky bunch….they score you first and it’s almost all over….they are skilful and their counter is quite good too. I really can not see how Burkina Faso will contain them…having said that, the Burkinabe’s didn’t come this far to give anyone a simple win….it’s going to be a tough match…
