With qualification to the last 16 secured, Cameroon were looking to top the Group A standings when they tackled Cape Verde.

The Blue Sharks meanwhile headed into the clash on the back of a loss to Burkina Faso, but still in with a shot at progression. They needed to slay the Indomitable Lions.

Cameroon though were out of the blocks at the rate of knots with the Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha put under pressure from the get go. The early exchanges belonged almost entirely to Cameroon. Vincent Aboubakar however handed his side a deserved lead at the 39th minute.

The Blue Sharks though weren’t about to surrender as halftime approached. Cameroon’s keeper Onana found himself under pressure, he however escaped as Cameroon went into the break 1-0 up.

8 minutes into the start of the second half, the substitute Garry Rodrigues stylishly levelled matters.

Cameroon were however looking to maintain their 100% record and were looking for another goal. The attack on Vozinha’s goal was relentless, but the stopper kept producing the goods as the clock was ticking away.

Try as they might, Cameroon were left frustrated by some of the resolute defending by Cape Verde. 1-1 the final score, the Indomitable Lions topping the Group A standings.
