Injury blow for Man Utd as Kobbie Mainoo sidelined for ‘few weeks’ with muscle injury

Manchester United have confirmed that teenage midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will be unavailable for a ‘few weeks’ after sustaining a muscular injury.

The 19-year-old picked up the injury during United’s goalless draw at Aston Villa before the international break, forcing him to withdraw from the England squad for this month’s UEFA Nations League.

Mainoo was substituted in the 85th minute at Villa Park and was replaced by Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, adding to the injury he suffered in their 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham in September when he complained of a tightness in his hamstring.

The United Academy graduate, who has started all of United’s games in the Premier League this season, was the breakout star at Old Trafford in the 2023-24 campaign despite missing the early parts of the season due to an ankle injury he suffered in pre-season.

The England international has yet to find the back of the net this term but has established himself as a regular under Dutch manager Erik ten Hag with nine appearances for United this season already.

Mainoo’s injury serves another blow to United, who are looking to kickstart their season and put an end to their five-game winless run, as he joins the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Leny Yoro on the injury list.

The Red Devils will return to action on Saturday, October 19, as they will welcome Brentford to Old Trafford in a matchday action.
