Chelsea talisman Cole Palmer has been named the England men’s player of the year for 2023-24, Afrosport reports.

The 22-year-old edged Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka to the award, which was voted for by the public, with the two other stars finishing second and third, respectively.

Palmer, who made his debut for England in a 2-0 win against Malta in November 2023, has played nine times for the national team, starting just twice.

The Chelsea forward has scored two goals and provided one assist for the Three Lions, including scoring the only goal in their 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Palmer’s triumph sees him become the first Chelsea player to win the award since Ashley Cole in 2010, and just the third player from the London club to get the accolade along with Frank Lampard.

The former Manchester City man, who joined the Blues last season, scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions. He has also started this campaign right with six goals and five assists in nine matches.

Palmer dethrones Saka, who has been named as the recipient of the award in the past two seasons.
