Bayern boss Tuchel left speechless by ‘world class’ Harry Kane

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel said he has nothing else to say about Harry Kane after the English forward scored a brace in their 2-1 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Kane opened the scoring for Bayern in the 80th minute at the Allianz Arena, nodding home a free kick from Joshua Kimmich for his third goal in the competition.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man doubled the home team’s lead six minutes later, tapping home from close range after a low cross from Mathys Tel to double the Bavarians lead and take his season tally in the Champions League to four goals. Although Cedric Bakambu pulled one back in stoppage time for Galatasaray, Bayern held on for the win to make it four wins from as many games and book a spot in the knockout rounds.

After the game, Tuchel heaped praise on Kane, whose world-class antics don’t come as a surprise to his new manager.

“I can’t tell you anything other than what I told you at the start of the season, and he [Kane] tells you the rest with his performance and with his ratio,” the German tactician said.

“The game tells the story; the performance tells the story. No more words are needed, it’s all been said,” he added.

Kane, who became just the third Englishman to score twice in a Champions League game for a non-English side, took his goal tally for the 2023–24 season to 19 in all competitions, having bagged 15 goals already in just 10 Bundesliga games, to continue his blistering start to life in Germany.

Bayern are now unbeaten in 38 matches in the competition, winning their last 17 in a row. They are also without defeat in 29 consecutive matches at home in the Champions League, and Tuchel said his side will stay ‘hungry’ in the tournament despite already securing a place in the knockout stages.

“I am very satisfied,” Tuchel said. “12 points, that’s absolutely not a matter of course, and it’s obviously excellent.

“We’ll stay hungry, but we’re group winners and we delivered another well-deserved home win today in an intense game, so we’re very happy, and big compliments to the team.”

The five-time Champions League winners still have two games in Group A, and they will face second-placed Copenhagen next at home before making the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on the last matchday.
