434views

Carlos Alcaraz booked his spot in the Wimbledon final after his straight-sets (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) victory over Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final on Friday and will now challenge defending champion Novak Djokovic.

The 20-year-old Spaniard was in top gear against his Russian opponent, breaking his serve at 5-3 in the first set to take the set in 35 minutes. The second set was also routine for Alcaraz, breaking Medvedev in the third and ninth games.

The third set saw both players battle each other after Alcaraz broke Medvedev in the second game. The Russian broke Alcaraz in the fifth game but Alcaraz broke back immediately. The same sequence occurred in the seventh and eighth games, leaving Alcaraz serving for the match in the ninth game which he held and won.

The Rafa Nadal Academy graduate will face Djokovic in Sunday’s final, a rematch of the French Open final last month which the Serbian won in straight sets.

The reigning Wimbledon champion overcame Italian eighth seed Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the earlier semi-final Ion Friday.
