UFC fighter McGregor explains incident with Miami Heat mascot

Two-time UFC champion Conor McGregor has explained the circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred between him and Miami Heat mascot Burnie last Saturday in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.

The 34-year-old Irishman revealed that he and Burnie, whom he inadvertently sent to the hospital, were merely performing a stunt, and that was all it was.

McGregor was on holiday in Miami and was an honorary invitee to the Kaseya Center for the Heat and Nuggets final. The fighter was a participant in a ‘fun segment’ with the Heat mascot, knocking him out in a playful fight before throwing an extra punch to finish him off.

However, the seemingly playful display turned out to be dangerous as the punch turned out to be a little too much for the individual inside the mascot costume, with reports suggesting he was sent to the hospital and handed pain medications by doctors before being sent home.

In the aftermath of the events, McGregor, who was promoting his Tidl spray within the skit, using it to help the mascot get better after the stunt, revealed he and Burnie have since spoken and claims the mascot is doing well.

“The mascot is good. It was a skit, and all is well,” he said. “I spent a lot of time with him afterward, we talked it out, everything is great. It was all part of the show!”

The legendary UFC fighter, who is set to return to the octagon for his fight later this year, watched the full game as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Heat 108-95. He is expected to face Michael Chandler on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
