Leicester City boss Rodgers explains Iheanacho’s bench role against Brentford
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has explained his decision to keep Kelechi Iheanacho as an unused substitute in their 2-2 draw against Brentford on Saturday.
The Foxes only made a substitution in the encounter with Zambia striker Patson Daka replacing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall just after half-time.
Pelenda Da silva’s 86th-minute equaliser denied Leicester City at the King Power Stadium after leading for the majority of the encounter.
In his postgame interview, Rodgers claims Brentford’s switch in playing style forced him to introduce just only a striker who was Daka.
“They changed their midfield so we wanted to push an actual striker further up the field because they went to a back three and had two deep-lying midfield players,” Rodgers said after the game.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho’s compatriot Wilfred Ndidi played the entire duration for the Foxes alongside Ghana defender Daniel Amartey.
Iheanacho will hope to get more playing minutes when Leicester City visit Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for their next Premier League match on August 13.
