WAFCON 2022: Oparanozie withdraws from Nigeria squad

Former Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie has confirmed her withdrawal from the 2022 Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Oparanozie who plies her trade at Wuhan Jianghan University, said border restrictions in China over coronavirus fears will prevent her from travelling to Africa.

The 28-year-old won the Golden Boot at WAFCON 2014 and he has four titles to her name with Nigeria.

Sweden-based Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has been called up to replace Oparanozie while Anam Imo takes the place of Chinwendu Ihezuo

Oparanozie is considered one of the most experienced players in Rady Waldrum’s team and she has scored 22 goals in 35 appearances for the Super Falcons.

The Super Falcons are currently camped in Abuja before they move to Morocco for the WAFCON tournament that will start on July 2.

Their opening match is against South Africa at the Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan on July 4.
