AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Adepoju sounds Sierra Leone warning to Super Eagles
Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has warned the Super Eagles not to underrate Sierra Leone in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Thursday.
Jose Peseiro’s side are aiming to commence their qualification campaign on a flying note at the MKO Abiola National Stadium after their back-t0-back defeats to Mexico and Ecuador in their latest friendly outings.
Nigeria are yet to beat their West African rivals in a competitive game since October 2008, with their last two games ending in draws in November 2020.
When asked about his expectations from the team; Adepoju told Fans Connect: “We are expecting nothing short of victory. Nigerians need the win because of the World Cup disappointment, everybody knows we won’t be in Qatar when other countries are battling for the ultimate trophy.
“The new coach needs to get his system working on Thursday because the fans need results to see his work and to renew their faith in the team.
“We should be able to get the job done if we don’t underrate Sierra Leone. They are very tricky side, going by the result we had the last time in Benin City.”
