Rangers star Balogun highlights differences between Gerrard and Van Bronckhorst
Rangers centre-back Leon Balogun said former coach Steven Gerrard was more emotional than current boss Gio van Bronckhorst who took over at the helm in November 2021.
Van Bronckhorst is close to making Rangers end their long wait for their first European title since 1972 while Gerrard helped the Gers end the 2020-21 league season without losing any game before he left for another coaching job at Aston Villa.
Having played for the two managers at Ibrox Stadium, Balogun explained the different qualities he noticed.
“Steven was a bit more emotional; Gio is more at peace with himself,” the Super Eagles defender told SportBILD.
“He gives us confidence in a different way. He encourages us to trust in his plan but also in our abilities.
“He gives you many tactical tricks and subtleties that improve you. Little things that end up making a big difference, for example, in passing accuracy and positional play.
“This helps the team to implement its plan in the best possible way.”
Balogun joined Rangers as a free agent in July 2020 and he has revealed that he is enjoying the best time of his career at the club, even though his current deal will expire at the end of the season.
The Nigeria international is on course to win his first European title when Rangers battle Eintracht Frankfurt in the Uefa Europa League final on May 18.
