Aubameyang makes 21st century history after scoring hat trick against Valencia
The Gabon international marks his first start in a Barcelona jersey with a hat trick against Valencia yesterday [Sunday].
Barcelona’s fourth goal against Valencia was originally credited to Pedri, but the goal has since been awarded to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and that makes it a hat trick for the Gabon national football team captain in Barcelona 4-1 win over Valencia on Sunday.
The 32-year old start for Barcelona against Valencia on Sunday, for the first time since arriving Camp Nou from the Emirates stadium, and he marks it with a hat trick. What makes the win even more special for Barcelona is that it happened at the Mestalla Stadium- home of Valencia.
The former Arsenal striker featured for the Catalans in the last two league matches as a substitute, with no goals. However, yesterday, when Barcelona defeated Valencia 4-1 , he did not only scored his first goal, but makes history as the first player to score a hat trick in four different leagues– Bundesliga, French league one, English Premier League and now La liga, since the beginning of the 21st century.
Aubameyang scored the first two goals in the first half (23 and 38 minutes) following a beautiful pass from Frenkie de Jong, to put Barcelona 3-0 up before the break. Also in the first half, the referee disallowed two Valencia goals in the first half- one for offside and the other one for the ball going out during build up.
Valencia eventually pulled one back through Soler in the 52 minute before Pedri’s swerving brilliant strike was deflected by Aubameyang into the back of the net in the 63 minute, making it four for the Catalans at the Mestalla Stadium and a hat-trick for the 32-year old.
The 32-year old will turn his attention to the Uefa Europa league against Napoli on Thursday, after playing a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
