Algeria skipper, Riyad Mahrez was on the score sheet as Man City defeat Sporting Lisbon 5-0 at the Estádio José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon.

Sporting Lisbon will need to work a magic, to stage an impossible comeback in the second leg, after suffering 5-0 loss to Man City at home yesterday (15 January 2022), in a one-sided game.

Riyad Mahrez open the scoring after seven minutes following a VAR check, which rules in his favor.

Bernardo Silva piledriver from inside the penalty box in the 17th minute makes it 2-0 for the English Premier league side.

Foden tapped in Mahrez cross to make it three for Man City  in the 32 minute before Bernardo Silva scored his second after his shot was deflected into the back of the net.

Raheem sterling completed the rout in the 58th minute with a stunning finish. Sterling scored the best goal of the match after his shot from outside the box sailed into the top right corner. It was a memorable night for the traveling fans.

Though, Sporting Lisbon tried to get back into the game in the second half, Man City was too good for the Portuguese club.

Mahrez got a goal and one assist in this game, and that increased his goal tally to 6 in 7 matches. Man City will aim to seal the qualification to the quarterfinals in the returning leg at Etihad Stadium on March 9.

Hakim Achraf, Morocco, also produced a spectacular performance at the right back to deny real Madrid and help PSG defeat Real Madrid 1-0  yesterday. Mbappe goal on the stroke of full time secure a well deserved victory for the French giant. Mpabbe scored arguably the best goal of the day after drifting past two defenders, before driving a low shot past Courtois.

The victory puts PSG in the driver’s seat when the two sides meet again at the Bernabeu stadium for the second leg on March 9.

Later today, Liverpool will lock horns with Inter Milan in the first leg of the round of 16 at the San Siro stadium. The Africa duo Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are expected to help the Reds defeat the Italian giants.
