Mayor of Sedhiou names city stadium after Mane
After an impressive performance at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, Mayor of Sedhiou has named the Liverpool forward after the city stadium.
The Mayor of Sedhiou, Abdoulaye Diop revealed that the city will name the Sedhiou stadium after Sadio Mane as a reward for his performance at AFCON 2021.
The 29-year old scored three goals and provided two assists in the tournament. He scored the winning penalty that helped Senegal defeat Egypt 4-2 on penalties, to clinch the AFCON title for the first time ever.
The AFCON success adds to Mane’s career achievement after winning the English Premiership League title, FIFA club world cup, Uefa super cup, and Uefa Champions league with Liverpool.

Abdoulaye Diop told Sports News Africa his plans to name the city after Mane as a recognition of his effort for Senegal AFCON success.
The mayor also uses the gesture to thank the Liverpool star for using his football success to make Sedhiou a popular region in Africa.
“Sadio Mane has honored all of Senegal, the Sedhiou region and the entire Casamance area,” I have decided to name the Sedhiou stadium after him.
“In doing so, I wish to convey the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region towards him.
“He has made all of mankind aware of Bambali and Sedhiou, the region’s main town. This is a gift that Sadio Mane truly deserves.”

Following their arrival into Dakar after conquering Africa, Senegalese President, Macky Sall, hosted the Teranga Lions in a sophisticated reception. He also conferred the country’s highest order upon each player. That makes each player Grand officer of the National order of the Lion.
Furthermore, each of the players and coaching crew were awarded $87,412 with a a 200 square metre plot of land in the nation’s capital, Dakar.
