Super Eagles move up in latest FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria improve its position in latest FIFA rankings released on February 10 by the world football governing body.

The February FIFA rankings was strongly influenced by the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations when Senegal won the AFCON trophy for the first time ever with Egypt and Cameroon securing the second and third position respectively.

Despite Nigeria unexpected exit in the round of 16 at the continental showpiece after winning all their first three matches, they moved up to third position on the continent and occupy 32nd spot globally with 1509 points.

Reigning Africa Champions, Senegal maintain its number one position in the continent and 18th in the world after amassing 1587 points.

Morocco is second in Africa and 28th globally with 1547 points. The Pharaohs ranked fourth in Africa and 34 in the world.

Tunisia ranked fifth in Africa and 36th in the world with 1482 points. The AFCON 2021 hosts, Cameroon occupies the sixth position with 1480 points

The biggest move of the February FIFA ranking is one of the AFCON 2021 debutants- Gambia, the Scorpions moved up 25 places, thanks to their good run at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Another big move in the Continent of Africa is Equatorial Guinea after moving 15 places and are now in the top 100 teams in the world.

Other African teams with significant rises includes Malawi, 119, + 10 Gabon (82, + 7). Mali added 5 points to 48, to be among the top 50 teams in the world.

The disappointing team in this ranking is Ghana who dropped to 11th in Africa 61st in the world following their awful outing at AFCON. South Africa position remain unchanged (13th in Africa and 68 in the world) despite not qualifying for the championship.

Overall, Belgium is still the best team in the world according to latest FIFA rankings, Brazil (2) and France (3).
