AFCON 2021: We will do all it takes to defeat Nigeria – Pele
The Djurtus midfielder, Pele, says they will do everything to defeat Nigeria, and secure a spot in the round of 16.
The heat is on for Guinea Bissau to defeat Nigeria and have a good chance to qualify to the next round.
The Djurtus sit in the third position in group D with one point after group phase, round two.
They drew Sudan in their first game and lost to Sudan in their second, leaving them on the brink of disqualification after just one point after two games.
Failure to defeat Nigeria in their last group game will spell doom for their progress to the next round.
The West Africans understand the implication of any result other than defeating Nigeria. So, Judilson Mamadu Tuncará Gomes aka Pele, as declared in an interview with Goal that they will do all it takes to stop Nigeria unbeaten run in the group phase and progress to the round of 16.
“It is our goal to qualify and we are not giving up on that, we must do everything to defeat Nigeria because it is very important for us,”
“We will fight with everything we have and if we played as we did against Egypt, we will qualify. We want everyone at home proud of us.” – Gomes told Goal.
Guinea Bissau did everything possible to avoid losing to Egypt, but Mo Salah was left unmarked in the 69th minute to score the only goal of the game. Although, they scored an equalizer in the 82nd minute, but it was ruled out by VAR.
That leaves the Monaco midfielder and his teammates a huge mountain to climb. Guinea Bissau will be aiming to defeat Nigeria in their final group phase fixture on January 9, Wednesday.
Later that same day, 20.00, Egypt will battle it out against the Falcons- both teams are also hoping to qualify to the next round.
