The male senior National Team of Rwanda, defeated the Syli Nationale of Guinea 3-0 in an international friendly played at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium on Monday evening.

The match served as a warm-up for coach Kaba Diawara’s team before the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021, taking place in Cameroon in a few days.

Guinea got off to a strong start, with Sory Kara and Amadou Diawara keeping the Rwandan defence on their toes. After 22 minutes, though, Muhadjir Hakizimana gave the hosts the lead.

As the Guinean team pushed forward, the Rwandan team defended in numbers. Dany Usengimana made it 2-0 for Rwanda in the second half with a low strike that volleyed past the Guinean goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone, into the net.

Sory Kara thought he had pulled a goal back after 53 minutes, but the goal was disallowed. The Amavubi of Rwanda, on the other hand, made it 3-0 after 72 minutes when Fred Muhozi slot in another goal.

Morlaye Sylla, who came in later as a substitute for the Syli Nationale, had many opportunities at goal, but Rwanda goalkeeper Adolphe Hakizimana was up to the task.

Guinea’s coach Diawara remarked after the encounter, “This has been a very excellent friendly match for us because it offers us the opportunity to identify and work on our weak areas.”

Guinea, who are in Group B with Senegal, Zimbabwe, and Malawi for the AFCON 2021, will play the Amavubi Stars in their second international friendly match on January 6th.
