Mane and Mendy jet out of England for Afcon
Mane and Mendy jet out of England few hours after the match at Stamford Bridge, to team up for Afcon 2021.
Mendy who was between the sticks for Chelsea and Mane who scored the first goal in the enthralling encounter between Chelsea and Liverpool on Sunday fly out of England to represent Senegal at the 2021 Africa cup of nations, which starts on January 9, 2022 in Cameroon.
Few hours after the game at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea came back from a 2-goal deficit and drew Liverpool 2-2, Edouard Mendy, on his instagram handle, shared a picture of himself and Sadio Mane on the plane to Senegal, where the Teranga lions are currently camping.
Senegal is yet to win the Afcon title. They came close in 2002 and 2019 where they finish second place behind Cameroon and Algeria respectively. Their aim this time would be to bring the Afcon title to Senegal for the first time. And preparations have begun to make that happen.
The West African side are currently camping at Thies, Senegal, and using the Lat Dior Stadium for their training session. The 2019 Africa footballer of the year and Mendy will team up with stars like Pape Gueye, Marseille, Idrissa Gueye, PSG’s and Kalidou Koulibaly, Napoli who are already in camp.
The Teranga lions are in group B with Zimbabwe, Guinea, Malawi. They will start their journey to win the title for the first time against the Warriors on January 10 at the Bafoussam Omnisport Stadium.
Four days later, take on Guinea before battling Malawi in their last Afcon 2021 group stage game on January 18.
