Mane, Salah and Mendy steal the show at Stamford Bridge as they get set to travel to Afcon
Salah and Mane scored one beautiful goal each in the 2-2 draw against Mendy’s Chelsea. The Senegalese goalkeeper tried his best to prevent his brothers from the same continent from scoring, but they eventually find the back of the net. This yet again is why Liverpool title hopes may bite the dust during the period of Afcon.
Both players have been remarkable for Liverpool this season, begging the question, how will Liverpool survive without this duo during Afcon?
Salah and Mane are expected to leave Liverpool tomorrow for Afcon. They have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success this season and in the position they are now.
Mane set another record in the premier league- no other player has scored more away goals than Mane at Stamford Bridge in the premier league since the commencement of last season. The Senegalese is also the first Liverpool player to score in back-to-back league appearances away to Chelsea.
If Liverpool had not threw away their 2 goals lead courtesy of Mane and Salah, they would be in a good position to contend for the title.
This draw put Liverpool 11 points behind the current league leaders, Man City. Meaning that, Liverpool can’t afford to drop a point in the next couple of games, to keep their titles hope alive.
But, the question looking for answers is, how can Liverpool achieve that without their main men, suggesting that Liverpool title hopes may bite the dust during the period of Afcon.
The Senegalese goal keeper, Mendy, too was outstanding today for Chelsea with series of superb saves and Chelsea will surely miss him too. He commanded the defense line excellently and made sure Liverpool did not get the third goal.
Mane is expected to lead the Senegalese attack when the Teranga lions open their Afcon campaign against Zimbabwe on January 10. The Pharaohs of Egypt would be looking forward to a tough game against Nigeria on 11 January in their Afcon opening game.
