Watford threatened Emmanuel Dennis not to represent Nigeria at AFCON 2021- Eguavoen
Interim coach of the Nigerian Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen says Watford FC of England threatened Emmanuel Dennis not to represent Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon.
Eguavoen disclosed this in an interview on NFF TV.
“We reached out to the club and they said they would not release Dennis.
And Dennis also told me that his club is doing everything to prevent him from going to the Nations’ Cup.
I cannot force it. I had to tell the authorities to take it up which they did.
Dennis said the club was threatening him not to go.
So, if a player is not coming, we have to make do with what we have.
That was why we had to wait till the last minute hoping that they will release him before we replaced him in the squad,” Eguavoen said.
Dennis and Victor Osimhen were amongst the players replaced recently in the Nigerian AFCON team.
