Ghana not favorites to win Africa Cup of Nations-Emmanuel Frimpong

Emmanuel Frimpong, former Arsenal midfielder and Ghanaian player does not think the Ghanaian squad has the quality to win the 2021 CAF Africa Nations cup in an interview with Goal.

The black stars are gearing up to win their 5th Africa nations cup in Cameroon 2022, but the Former Arsenal player does not think the west African stand a chance to dominate Africa in Cameroon as he evaluates the current Ghana squad as not “good enough” to win the Afcon title.

At the same time, he is not writing them off, because anything can happen in football. He revealed that in a recent interview with Goal when asked about the possibly of Ghana winning the title.

“No, I don’t think we have a squad that is good enough but in football, you never know. Nobody supported Italy for the Euros, but they won it, you can never tell. I think they can qualify from the group, but I am not sure they can win the title”

“I like Egypt because I’m a huge fan of Salah and Elneny, so if Ghana don’t win it, I hope Egypt do. For me, Salah is the biggest player in Africa.” The 29-year old added.

Frimpong in the interview, singles out the Rennes playmaker, Kamaldeen Sulemana as a player that can make the difference for Ghana in Cameroon. Kamaldeen has been amazing for Rennes this season scoring four goals with two assists.

He won the man of the match when Rennes wrecks the French league giant, PSG, destroying their unbeaten run. Kamaldeen was the best player in a game that has Messi, Mbappe, Neymar, and Di Maria.

“I think Sulemana Kamaldeen who plays for Rennes is a very good player and I think he is a player who can make the difference for Ghana,”- Frimpong.

Frimpong sees his football career cut short due to an injury. He made just one appearance for Ghana, but he played previously for England at youth level before changing allegiance to Ghana. Asides playing for Arsenal, he also played for Fulham F.C and Wolves.

For Cameroon 2021, Ghana is zoned in the same group with Morocco, Gabon, and Comoros. Ghana and Morocco are the favorites to qualify for the next round.
