AFCON 2021 To Be Held In Jan – Feb 2022
The Africa Cup of Nations 2021 is scheduled to commence on January 9, 2022, and end on February 6, 2022, having been delayed for a year due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Africa nations cup, 2021 was initially scheduled to be played June-July 2021, just like the 2019 AFCON tournament, to avoid country-club clashes. Instead, the AFCON 2022 would follow the AFCON tradition of being played at the beginning of the year.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) states that this decision was made because of the hot climate during the summer months. Liverpool manager, Jurgen Kloop showed concern about this decision in a recent press conference as three of his key players, Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Naby Keita would be missing in action for Liverpool during this tournament.
That could affect Liverpool chances of clinching the Premier League title this season. They are currently trailing Man City by three points before the Boxing Day Premier League games.
In addition, the CAF Africa cup of nations tournament will keep its name of AFCON 2021 instead of Afcon 2022 on the grounds of sponsorship, just like Euro 2020 kept its name even though it was played in June-July of 2021.
