SERIE A: Derby divides Milan this weekend
Derby di Milano,
Inter Milan vs AC Milan,
I Nerazzurri vs Rossoneri,
like ice against fire,
Blue against Red,
opposite ends of the spectrum yet with a few similarities,
commonalities that include the hunger to be the best in Serie A,
but to be Italy’s finest, they first need to show their worth as the top dogs of the city.
Milan will be split this weekend as the city rivals face off in the Derby della Madonnina and as they are off the pitch in terms of distance, the lines of division have not been all that wide on it recently.
Four points separate the Milanese teams on the Serie A log which Inter sit top of, firmly holding on to their Scudetto as things stand. Their position won’t change post match, but things could be a lot closer should AC Milan pull off a first win over I Nerazzurri in their last four attempts.
Head-to-head form, as well as league form favours Inter heading into the clash at the San Siro. In their last 11 league fixtures, Inter have dropped points just twice, draws that came against fellow Serie A high-fliers Atalanta and none other than AC Milan in the reverse fixture back in November.
The Rossoneri on the other hand have dropped points the 4 points they trail the league leaders in their last two games. Milan played to a goalless draw with Juventus the last time out, this came after a shock loss at home to Spezia mid-January. Another loss would severely dent Stefano Pioli team’s hopes of winning the Serie A title for the first time in more than a decade.
It could however be a vital win in the title race if Inter are to prevail victorious as they look to retain the Scudetto.
My money is on AC Milan….I have a soft spot for them….am being bias I guess…I would really love to see them carry a cup again….it’s been too long…not taking anything away from Inter Milan…they are a formidable team….
